There are also unequal access and systemic barriers for people of color, including economic barriers, geographic barriers, and scarcity of MTB heroes and proud girlfriend of a freakin’ awesome welder who is sometimes a jerk and that’s okay shirt!

Our sport requires expensive bicycles and trails to ride them, and people of color have disproportionately low access to both. It’s hard to tackle inequality in a privileged industry like this one and proud girlfriend of a freakin’ awesome welder who is sometimes a jerk and that’s okay shirt!  This is a difficult sport to get into for communities with a ~ 41% lower median household income, especially when they are geographically limited access to the trails. I grew up in the middle class, saving by mowing lawns and doing housework on my first real mountain bike, but it was a generation’s wealth that allowed me to do that.
