It sold gold much due to past fame and because the original fans wanted nostalgy. Although Corgan has later told in interviews that he could tell people hadn’t listened the album, otherwise they would’ve sang its songs on gigs. After that there isn’t much to tell. People in their 30s and 40s go see them cause they want to hear the big songs from the 90s when they were teens. Critics have favoured some of their later works but the mass audience thinks of them just as a cool band from the 90s. For instance, in May 1996 The Pumpkins featured on The Simpsons in an episode where Homer goes to Lollapalooza music festival. This one is like the Indonesian version of Cinderella but without the prince, the story is about a merchant who lived happily with his daughter name Bawang Putih and his wife. One day, his wife grown ill and passed away. As he felt sad to see bawang putih seems so lonely, he decided to marry a widower who also has a daughter name Bawang Merah. They appeared to be kind to Bawang Putih at first, however when the father away for business trip, they became so mean to her and it gotten worse when the father passed away. Bawang Putih became designated slave in the house, she was forced to do all the house chores. Later that day, she was washing clothes in the nearby river when she lost her mother’s clothes, afraid , she came home and confessed everything, to her mother’s wrath she had to find the clothes no matter what. Bawang Putih then proceed to find the clothes everywhere until she found an old lady who told her if she really wanted the clothes she has to live with her for a week. Bawang Putih agreed. For a week she always helped the old lady chores, the old lady really love her for that. After a week, she gave her the clothes and also offered her to take a pumpkin, Bawang Putih must choose whether to take the big one or the smaller one. Because the big one was too heavy, she choose the small one. When Bawang Putih came home, she opened the pumpkin to find gold and jewelries, she called for her step mother and sister who later took all the gold for them and forced her to tell them where did she get the pumpkin from. The next day, Bawang Merah came to the old lady house and offered to accompany her for a week, the old lady agreed. However, Bawang Merah did not do anything to help, she was lazy and ungrateful. After a week, the old lady offered her two pumpkin and Bawang Merah immediately chose the bigger one and left without so much of a thank you. Arrived at home, she called for her mother and told Bawang Putih to go away for they don’t want to share the gold to her. So I can sympathize with her to that extent. So why DO Masons, or initiates of other orders, treat their “mystery” this way, when anyone can run out and buy a monitor or other publication which (may) contain the text of the rituals, word and grip, step and sign? Because we gave our word. Because even if these things were widely available on the internet (as indeed they may be) it makes no difference to the promise we gave to treat certain things as secret, to be revealed only to “a proper person, properly prepared.” Yes, this promise was phrased as an oath, which may include 42 distinctly painful penalties for violating it. But the bottom line is we said we would honor ritual secrecy. Oh, there are other aspects to it. Someone might have a copy of the rituals a Mason has experienced or the ones I have experienced. Hell, I *did* have a copy of some of the rituals I later experienced, bought for study decades before I did so. But that book-knowledge is not the same as experiencing the initiation in person, on the spot and (as it were) in the spotlight. And the only way to transmit that experience to someone is to bring them, if they feel called to do so, to be initiated in their turn, It may “take,” or they may decide after the fact that it is not their cup of tea – that makes no odds. But until you are someone’s sworn brother or sister, they are not free to disclose “the mysteries.” Because we promised. Pumpkin puree. Not a question in my mind. Breaking down a pumpkin, even a small one, isn’t exactly that easy. It’s not rocket science by any means, but it’s not a tomato either. I do think I have extra trouble because I have small hands and it can be difficult to stabilize what I’m cutting, so I have to go slowly to make sure I don’t cut myself (always a big risk with pumpkins). I’m also short, which means less leverage for the downward motions. I have the same trouble with butternut squash, so it’s hardly unique to pumpkins. Except that the reward factor isn’t there for the pumpkin puree. After cleaning and cutting up and roasting the pumpkin, you puree it… and it tastes literally no freaking different than the canned stuff (I had some on hand to compare in case I needed to adjust my pie recipe’s spices or something.) In June 2005 Corgan announced that he will gather The Pumpking back together. That happened and on July 2007 they released album Zeitgeist. It sold gold much due to past fame and because the original fans wanted nostalgy. Although Corgan has later told in interviews that he could tell people hadn’t listened the album, otherwise they would’ve sang its songs on gigs. After that there isn’t much to tell. People in their 30s and 40s go see them cause they want to hear the big songs from the 90s when they were teens. Critics have favoured some of their later works but the mass audience thinks of them just as a cool band from the 90s. This one is like the Indonesian version of Cinderella but without the prince, the story is about a merchant who lived happily with his daughter name Bawang Putih and his wife. One day, his wife grown ill and passed away. As he felt sad to see bawang putih seems so lonely, he decided to marry a widower who also has a daughter name Bawang Merah. They appeared to be kind to Bawang Putih at first, however when the father away for business trip, they became so mean to her and it gotten worse when the father passed away. Bawang Putih became designated slave in the house, she was forced to do all the house chores. Later that day, she was washing clothes in the nearby river when she lost her mother’s clothes, afraid , she came home and confessed everything, to her mother’s wrath she had to find the clothes no matter what. Bawang Putih then proceed to find the clothes everywhere until she found an old lady who told her if she really wanted the clothes she has to live with her for a week. Bawang Putih agreed. For a week she always helped the old lady chores, the old lady really love her for that. After a week, she gave her the clothes and also offered her to take a pumpkin, Bawang Putih must choose whether to take the big one or the smaller one. Because the big one was too heavy, she choose the small one. When Bawang Putih came home, she opened the pumpkin to find gold and jewelries, she called for her step mother and sister who later took all the gold for them and forced her to tell them where did she get the pumpkin from. The next day, Bawang Merah came to the old lady house and offered to accompany her for a week, the old lady agreed. However, Bawang Merah did not do anything to help, she was lazy and ungrateful. After a week, the old lady offered her two pumpkin and Bawang Merah immediately chose the bigger one and left without so much of a thank you. Arrived at home, she called for her mother and told Bawang Putih to go away for they don’t want to share the gold to her. However, after they opened the pumpkin, it was not gold nor jewelry but snakes and scorpions etc, and killed them both. So I can sympathize with her to that extent. So why DO Masons, or initiates of other orders, treat their “mystery” this way, when anyone can run out and buy a monitor or other publication which (may) contain the text of the rituals, word and grip, step and sign? Because we gave our word. Because even if these things were widely available on the internet (as indeed they may be) it makes no difference to the promise we gave to treat certain things as secret, to be revealed only to “a proper person, properly prepared.” Yes, this promise was phrased as an oath, which may include 42 distinctly painful penalties for violating it. But the bottom line is we said we would honor ritual secrecy. Oh, there are other aspects to it. Someone might have a copy of the rituals a Mason has experienced or the ones I have experienced. Hell, I *did* have a copy of some of the rituals I later experienced, bought for study decades before I did so. But that book-knowledge is not the same as experiencing the initiation in person, on the spot and (as it were) in the spotlight. And the only way to transmit that experience to someone is to bring them, if they feel called to do so, to be initiated in their turn, It may “take,” or they may decide after the fact that it is not their cup of tea – that makes no odds. But until you are someone’s sworn brother or sister, they are not free to disclose “the mysteries.” Because we promised. Pumpkin puree. Not a question in my mind. Breaking down a pumpkin, even a small one, isn’t exactly that easy. It’s not rocket science by any means, but it’s not a tomato either. I do think I have extra trouble because I have small hands and it can be difficult to stabilize what I’m cutting, so I have to go slowly to make sure I don’t cut myself (always a big risk with pumpkins). I’m also short, which means less leverage for the downward motions. I have the same trouble with butternut squash, so it’s hardly unique to pumpkins. Except that the reward factor isn’t there for the pumpkin puree. After cleaning and cutting up and roasting the pumpkin, you puree it… and it tastes literally no freaking different than the canned stuff (I had some on hand to compare in case I needed to adjust my pie recipe’s spices or something.)
